Your Candida Experiences
Why Me!
“I felt the same way every day – always exhausted even after a full nights sleep. My breath was smelly andI felt bloated and stuffed up. My joints ached and even after a few visits to my GP the tests were inconclusive. I was finally diagnosed with candida but given canistan to treat the trush. I had no enjoyment in life but feel this is a new beginning too because I was ill and it wasn’t all in my head. I have an appt to see alternative therapist in next few days and I’m feeling hopeful. ”

Candida & Food Allergies…
“A ton of symptoms led to Celiac Disease/Gluten Intolerance : bloating, constipation, pink eye (but only in one and it never spread to the other) chronic fatigue, ulcers in my mouth, brain fog, joint pain, *did I mention the chronic fatigue! It was awful! Pain in my abdomen after eating wheat/gluten and swelling in my throat after eating oats. I cut out gluten and all those went away, except a reoccurring yeast infection. 3 years later, several symptoms retured and I discovered a sensitivity to corn, but I stillhad the yeast infection.
Now I’m trying the Candida diet to get rid of the YI and hopefully lose some weight which has been impossible even with tons of exercise. The Candida diet does vary depending on your source. I really don’t want to cut coffee but, I’ll do what it takes. I hope in a couple of weeks I can share my progress. ”

A new life for me!
“Hi everyone, thanks for sharing. I was just diagnosed with chronic candida. It makes sense after so long on antibiotics for chronic tonsillitis. I’m also a sugar addict. I cannot tell you how scared I am not being able to have sugar. I can give up the alcohol, I can give up the breads and white flour and cakes…but my daily dose of chocolate? That’s going to be really hard. It’s like giving up my lover (probably because I don’t have one)!
But I want to do this. I am now 40 and feel 10 years older. It’s no longer about the 20 kg overweight I am – it’s about health. I want to FEEL well…I want to bounce out of bed…I don’t want to emotionally eat. I want control back!!! Let’s take back our Power people! :)”

Feeling much better
“After my high alcohol/sugar diet in college I felt like I ruined my insides. I couldn’t eat like I used to and I assumed I had developed ulcers. If I drank only 2 beer I wouldn’t be able to eat the next day. I assumed I just needed to heal and give my body a rest. I would drink 2 beers every so often (~once/month) to see if I was progressing but the condition persisted for 4 years. I had recently started thinking of gut flora and started taking pepto bismuth for the stomach pain and to kill H Pylori bacteria. I assumed that was killing good bacteria too so I started buying smoothies.
The real progress for me (and this is not for everyone) was when I bought pure powdered caffeine. I’d mix a little with a shot of water in place of soda or coffee. I started to not feel depressed and my mood seemed to be up (even without caffeine in my system). I ran across an article by chance (on Digg) about candida albicans and everything fell into place. The symptoms sounded right but I didn’t know what caffeine had to do with it so I added that to the Google search and found that high doses actually kill them. I even found symptoms that I didn’t realize were connected (toe-nail fungus and previous sinus infection). I drank a 12 pack for the first time in 4 years and had lasagna for lunch the next day, no problem. While my situation may be unique I still recommend following a diet more appropriate for candida removal.”

Sick too long
“I started getting real sick with intestinal problems in 1986. After numerous doctors, a homeopathic doctor diagnosed me with roundworms. I also have numerous food allergies, food intolerance, asthma, restrictive lung disease, and a bulging disc problem in lower lumbar. After taking meds for the roundworms, I improved some but still had symptoms of yeast infections, feeling of cramps all the time, vaginal discomfort. He did another test and found I had inflammation of the large intestine. I noticed my symptoms got worse with certain foods. I went on candida diet and improved. Lately I feel I’m getting ill again, I suspect candida problem because I don’t eat a very good diet. I crave dairy alot and junk foods. So I want to go back on candida diet. Also, I have a recent scalp condition that I developed that looks like seborrheic dermatitis and I’ve been losing my hair. From what I’ve researched this may be caused from an overgrowth of yeast organisms. This gave me a clue that I may have candida systemic problem. I recently started eating plain yogurt with acidophilus and I feel an improvement with my intestinal crampy feeling that’s pretty much chronic. I want to start candida diet once again (I may have to stay on this the rest of my life), and continue with acidophilus, and maybe Pau d’ Arco tea. Is candida a lifelong problem? I mean does it re-occur if you go off the candida diet? Anyway thanks for listening.”

Yeast infection HELL!
“I too have had so many yeast infections I thought I was going to lose my mind. Swelling, itching, burning pain for days and days. I tried every cream and pill out there and nothing works for long, I can not deal with it any more. My doc is baffled but I really think I have a systemic yeast infection. I started the detox yesterday, I’ll keep you posted. :)”

Candida at 20! The nightmare that stole my high school graduation
“Let’s see, I was about 16 when I started to feel the symptoms and I was confused as to why I was feeling so down for no reason. I mean I was always the energetic funny go lucky cheerleader but something killed my spirit leaving me to linger is this drudgery drugged up feeling state. I would wake up feeling like I just wanted the world to end, go to school feeling exhausted even though I had 8 or 9 hours of sleep and I’d learn nothing because I felt so so so out of it and the brain fog kept me uninterested in what teachers had to teach. I even had to miss out on my friends parties sometimes because I’d feel suicidal some days from the hormonal imbalance. Worst part of all, as soon as I turned 18, I took myself out of high school due to the mental stress and went for my GED instead which was disapointing because I only had 1 semester left but anyone who’s had chronic candida would understand I’m sure.
So anyways, I went to the doctors who totally piss me off til this day because she didn’t even bother testing me, she just said “oh honey its all in your head”, this is normal for teenagers” so I took therapy, haha that didn’t work. My condition got worse and worse so I began drinking and smoking weed and I even tried cocaine a couple of times – that was the lowest point of my life, I just knew this couldn’t all be in my head somehow.
I got into meditation and chanting with my mother and through I guess visualizing myself happy again somehow little by little I started making positive changes in my life. First I quit drinking, the stuff that once took me to a safe place just disgusted me and the marijuana couldn’t put me in the euphoric place that the chanting and meditation could, and then finally I told myself that I wanna go vegetarian for my New Years resolution and wow after a month of my vegetable/fish/nuts/very low carb count diet omg I felt brand new. I kid you not, all of a sudden I was making new friends, laughing all of the time, I was unstoppable, creative and constantly lighting up the room also I got the job I wanted pretty much everything I had visualized before. The twist in this story is that I eventually went back to my old ways about a month or two after I quit chanting, people had me convinced that it was the devil but today I know that God won’t hate me for doing something that is good for me, god is about us doing something positive in our lives and sharing love and helping others and anyways my candida came back ok and it sucks more the second time around because I feel like I once had all the happiness I could ask for and now I’m back to suffering.
Today I’m going on a 7day candida/ depression buster challenge. I did my research a lot on candida and depression this go around and found some pretty great homeopathic cures along with yoga and the candida diet.. if it works I’m going to post it on the internet and hopefully help so many others to win the battle and take their lives back.”

Tired and annoyed
“Hi!, I have been to several doctors asking for help with these symptoms, It started with thrush I’d treat it and not even a week later it would be back, I went through this for months whilst having a horrible time with skin irritations, my legs were breakins out in rashes an were constantly itchy, I was tired an had very bad memory, and I had difficulty concentrating, the doctors put most of it down to hayfever and lack of sleep. Now having read about the candida diet I’m thinking this has been my problem all along so I am going to give it a shot an fingers crossed it will be the best thing ever”

Feeling much better already
“Hello, roughly four months ago i suffered tonsillitis for two weeks and was under antibiotics the whole time, then a week later i got antibiotics for my back ache. Roughly a month later i noticed a white layer on the back of my tongue, i felt tired constantly, bad breath, and started to become a little sloppy in general. I was eating rather unhealthy as well, lots of sugar, carbs and drinking every weekend. I then got a slightly swollen throat for ages and felt more terrible everyday. I then did some research and stumbled across this site. I figured i likely have candida overgrowth in me 🙁 I am now FIVE days in the candida diet, i currently eat 10 to 20 eggs a day, with 4 egg yolks max a day, tons of broccoli, tons of spinach, tons of onions, free range chicken, beef, and plenty of sardines in olive oil, and of course plenty of fresh garlic from the garden. I make chicken soups from chicken legs, onions, garlic, capsicum, broccoli I fry everything in olive oil. I take a gluten, yeast free multivitamin, and probiotics daily, eat 2 Brazil nuts, drink 3 to 4L bottled water. I have been doing this 5 days now, although i felt quite crappy on day 3, i feel really energized now, my white tongue is starting to fade, breath a bit better, i still sometimes get cold feet when its hot, but overall feel much much better and healthier. I plan to continue this routine, good luck everyone ! :)”

Constant battle
“i thought i was alone in this. i can see im not, and my heart goes out to all of you who are suffering with this horrible candida problem. ive been suffering for about 22 years with it, afteri had my first child.,seemed my hormones change, my body chemicals changed, along with all these bad symtoms that come with it. depression, fatigue, hoplessness. i finally figured out that if you want to feel good, you must be on a 24/7 alert! meaning its a costant concionsness of wanting to feel good.,reading the book the yeast connection helps me a lot. its my bible and i carry it with me in my purse, so its a constant reminder not to go off my diet,or i will feel like i want to die! no sugar!! no junk!!,everything that i start to put in my mouth, i must think twice and 3 times, “will this benifit my health, or hender? its not worth the second of pleasure in my mouth for a week of feeling horrible, so i put it down.,i do not have any, canned, packaged, frozen, or meat! only fresh and pref.organic. i just purchased Aquaflora yesterday, see what happens? feeling better already from it. its a liquid ,you take 2 capeful a day on empty stomach. also doing garlic and caprilic acid. all these seem to help. and par de arco tea. ,lots of water. i stopped coffee, that seemed to help the most. everyday i still suffer a bit, but working on my health is my most important endeavor, fresh air and deep breathing helps as well. keeping positive and praying to our lord for strenght in our health always helps. imangining your inside with all good cells and healthy, all these things have been helping me, and i hope i have helped others who suffer with this horrible candida. lets kick it in the butt!! good luck to all who suffer, and god bless all of you to give you the strenght to go on!! hare krsna, your sister rohini dd”

Think Candida is running my life
“I’m currently 26 years old and i’ve been having problems since i was 18. Chronic UTI’s, yeast infections and vaginites that seemed to be caused by sexual activity. The doctors just kept telling me it was caused by a sensitivity to bacteria and allergies to soaps. My husband and i both switched to the same soap (dove sensitive), we took sometimes 2 showers a day, always washed before and after being intimate, kept my husbands fingernails clipped and scrubbed, stayed away from thongs and always wore cotton crotch panties…and still kept coming down with infections. I thought it was just me…and then i started noticing other symptoms along with those “female symptoms.” I’ve had fatigue, bloatedness, constipation, unexplained aches and pains all over the body, memory loss and brain fog. I just recently was talked into going to see a naturopath and they did a Quantum Biofeedback test on me. I tested very high for Candida/Yeast/Fungus in the body. My naturopath recommended the Candida diet and i am so excited to try it. It’s going to be a huge change in my diet but i’m so fed up that i’m willing to make this sacrifice. I also tested positive for some food allergies like meat, wheat and whey. Since my body cannot digest meat, it sits in my stomach and ferments which causes bacteria to form and can spread to other parts of the body and can also feed the infections. They told me that eating the right food for your body and blood type can also help with weight loss for those women who feel like no matter how hard they work out they just can’t lose the weight. I feel so bad for the women out there who have had to unknowingly deal with this for most of their lives only to find out this diet would have saved a lot of pain, stress and lost time. I realize how fortunate i am to have caught it while i’m still so young and i thank God for that! ”

Hair Loss, Anyone?
“I have been experiencing progressive hair loss over the past 2/3 years, and my mom and I believe that it is due to candida. I’m only 17 years of age, and I’m also experiencing fatigue, itchy scalp, little bumps on my head, and itchiness in my private area. My question is, has anyone here suffered from hair loss from their candida, and has it been overcome? I’ve been on the diet for 3 days now, and my symptoms have become worse (esp. the hair loss and itchy scalp). I assume that this is because of the die-off. I would greatly appreciate it if you could share your experiences! Losing hair as a teenager isn’t much fun… ”

10 years is long enough…
“My problems started when I was 18, I will be 28 in a month. So, I have been dealing with this for almost 10 years. It started out with vaginal infections & UTI’s. Still can not get rid of them! The symptoms will subside for a while (but feel slightly present) and then flare up again without fail. I also started experiencing allergies, extreme fatigue, sinus issues, adrenal fatigue, other hormone imbalances, very dry eyes & skin (chicken skin), moodiness, but above all the worst is definitely the vaginal infections. If i could just heal those I could learn to live with the rest. I have tried so many remedies, meds, and strategies to get rid of the infections, but nothing works! I started the diet over a year ago but only lasted a week because I gave in at a special event and had cake. I do remember feeling a little better during that week. But I never started it back up again bc I thought it would be too hard. But I cannot go the rest of my life like this. I need some relief. So I am serious about starting the diet again and using various anti-fungals & probiotics. I have to beat this because I know it is only going to get worse if I don’t. ”

Meat Eater to Vegetarian to Vegan and Back Again
“As someone of mixed racial heritage (First Nations and Asian) I Have always been aware of the dietary challenges withe dairy and sugar, since these two groups have a higher incidence of lactose-intolerance and diabetes. I thought I had made choices to prevent disease from affecting my life. I was wrong on so many counts and the following is my brief history of how I came to where I am today. I have suffered from so-called allergies to things such as dust, tobacco smoke as well as other irritants such as dog and cat hair and hayfever in the spring and fall. I have had to date three sinus surgeries which have always been followed up with antibiotics, which seemed to require stronger doses each time. I was diagnosed in my early thirties with endrometriosis and was put on 2 birth control pills per day; this of course lead to a major depression which required high doses of antidepressants to alleviate my syptoms. Eventually, I had a hysterectomy and thought all my problems would simply go away and I could lead a normal pain-free life. This was not the case. My healing time seemed to take forever and when I finally dragged my pain-ridden body for my post -surgical checkup, the gynocologist thought I might have fibromyalgia. Dealing with chronic colds, the fibromyalgia would have been enough but I then started having problems with irritable bowel syndrome arthritis and chronic back pain. I’ve spent many hours in doctors’ offices trying to get to the bottom of my concerns, but with very little success. I just recently saw a naturopath in May 2011. I had nothing to lose except of course more money for treatment and suppplements which I know I would not take, since taking another pill felt like another nail in my coffin. The naturopath spent an hour with me asking me questions regarding my concerns, as well as my diet, exercise & stress levels. He then asked me a series of questions to get a idea of what toxins I might be impaired by. I left his office that day not realizing that my life was about to change radically. I went home that day without any supplements or diet recoomendations since I knew life for an upcoming graduation and holidays was not going to permit much fluctuation. After holidays were over I went back to his office and was given a diet for anti-candida as well as caprylic acid and probiotics. I started the regimen on June 19th, 2011, and the first three days were tough. I was so emotional on the Monday and Tuesday that for no reason I started crying at work. By the end of the week I started to feel better.,It’s been two weeks now and I fell FANTASTIC. I no longer have the aching joints and muscles, my bloating, gas and constipation have disappeared. I am sleeping so well and I feel happy. I’ve heard that you can slowly re-introduce sugar and flour into your diet once a large amount of the candida has been killed off, but I won’t. It has not been a challenge for me to give up sugar and gluten (even as a vegan) because to feel this way is a miracle. I have made up my mind that even testing the waters is never a good idea-why tempt fate? I would strongly encourage anyone who feels lousy in general to visit a naturopath and make radical changes-no mind games since you’ll always end up paying the ultimate price in terms of your precious health!”

Confused, worried and scared
“for months i have this feeling that something is wrong within me. i started to notice my discharge, the bloating after i took birth control pills, the mood swings, depression, laziness, nausea, headaches and sinusitis, the joint and knee pains, even the cravings for sweets are all kicking in. i want to go to a gynecologist to have a check up on my discharge but before i have, i tried to browse online to have a background on what i might have. i am too afraid i might not have a baby and the gyne might not address my problem properly, as i read, i am almost sure the i have this candida thing. too bad because this case might not be known that much in my country, im afraid the doctors might take it as an STD or something else. i hope i could get cured of this infection, and have so may questions in mind. hope to hear encouragement from everyone…”

Willpower, self-control, and the desire to be free of yeast
“Well, I read the stories of other women and have to say that they are like mine. I also have had yeast infections almost every month or some kind of vaginal infection constantly. In the middle of my itching- literally I came across a downloadable E-book that said something about curing your yeast infection and they had me at the work “CURE” because I was in downright turmoil. I of course bought the E-book, which really turned out to be changing my diet to a candida free diet which I have stuck to faithfully for two weeks- all with the exception of one darn piece of pizza-(we’re only human) but I have been free of symptoms and look forward to staying free of Candida FOREVER!,April”

“I participated in a fast along with my church. At the end of the fast I began to eat normally again and I felt like I was going to die after only 1 day! I quickly found out I have a wheat gluten allergy…no problem I thought I can avoid wheat. I began looking online for gluten free diet tips and I came across a site about Candida overgrowth. It was like the sky opened up! All the symptoms I’ve had since a small child were suddenly explained. Constant ear and sinus infections, dry itchy skin, coated tongue, “ADHD”, insomia, fatigue, bladder infections, eye infections, cravings weight gain, bruising etc….I’m now on day 14 of the process and I really hope this ends everything for good :). ”

29 and fed up with being tired
“I have thought for a very long time that I have chronic fatigue. I had a baby 8 months ago and the fatigue became unacceptable. I had no energy for anything other then taking care of my daughter. My husband and I were fed up with me being tired and things not getting done. I went to my doctor, he knew nothing about chronic fatigue and suggested changing one of my medicines. I talked to my mom, she suggested I may have an intestinal yeast infection. I did a lot of research. Low and behold I had all the symptoms of candida.
I started the diet about a month ago. Immediately my intestines started feeling better. Now I have more energy then ever before, my house is looking better, my husband notices a difference. I went to Michigan to see my family; they all noticed a difference in my energy levels and that I was feeling better. I think I may have a wheat sensitivity and my be eating gluten free for the the rest of my life. I am praising God for helping me to finally feel better. If you have chronic fatigue I suggest you try this diet, even if you don’t take anti-fungals or see a doctor. ”

I am more than ready!
“Yes I am only 21 and have learned alot! I was married about 3 years ago and I was about 125 and I am 5’4. I never seemed to think I had that many health problems growing up, but with where I am at today I realized I did and it all makes much more sense now. I got married, felt good and went on birth control, which I will never go on again. I started having many problems, leg cramps, heart palpitations, of course gained weight. Then started many infections, sick all the time colds etc etc, I was so confused I tried 4 different birth controls in a years time none worked for me so I stopped in hopes my problems would get better, they did not. They got worse it seemed I kept gaining weight monthly, I wasn’t pregnant as everyone kept asking, which got very old. I started having skin issues worse than I ever had patchy white dry spots and so on. I kept going to doc for yes another round of wonderful antibiotics to only make all of that worse. My immune system just seemed like It was gone, so I began taking things into my own hands.
My husband and I started eating better we were already cutting out all soda and juice since before we were married just because of the high sugar. Then came bleached flour and on and on. My husband kept losing weight and but I wasn’t losing any weight. I began getting very depressed as I had no clue why my body seemed to be so messed up!
So were now going on year 2 of married life and I am now 165 and for the last year I have been of sugar only use stevia if needed no dairy, wheat, gluten, I use coconut oil, and a lot of garlic in cooking. I did find out thought that I had high bacteria (candida) and my skin is the worst it has ever been which I have had some sweets etc since I have been so frustrated that nothing has changed with my body in such a long period of time. So I found this site and felt what have I got left to lose but feeling good again and getting back to a more healthy weight. So I am wanting to start the Candida diet I am a little nerveous as I am afraid which I am sure the die off will be hard, but I am only 21 I have alot of life left I cant be having so many health problems and I have no clue what else to do, but with the skin fungus, weight issues, skin issues, tired all the time – something is wrong. Oh and all my adrenal, thyroid tests from my doctor where fine so I really hope this helps It sure cant hurt! I really enjoyed reading everyone’s posts on their experiences I do really hope I cant start feeling better and get rid of atleast some of these issues! ”

Candida for the second time
“I had it 18 years ago. It’s back again after 3 rounds of antibiotics in one year, along with chronic fatigue syndrome and hypothyroid. I’m also gluten, wheat, dairy, soy, chicken, turkey, almonds, walnuts, garlic, green peas, lima and pinto bean, intolerant! No wonder I never felt good when I ate. I think gluten destroyed my digestive system and was a factor in getting the Candida again. It took a year to get better the first time, but I had it worse then, so maybe it won’t take that long this time. I’m 100% diet compliant. It’s the only way to get well fast.”

Coeliac & Dairy intolerance nightmare!
“I guess it all started when I got pneumonia as a baby at 6 weeks old. To save me I was pumped full of antibiotics for 2/3 weeks. But little did I know that this would be the very thing to start my candida symptoms. At 4 I got psoriasis over my neck & scalp. As time went on every time I got sick and I would again be pumped with more antibiotics. I ended up getting bad tummy pains which the Dr. said was a grumbling appendix & to eat more fiber. Eventually I started getting the feeling of not being able to breathe through my nose properly which I again told the Dr. & pretty much got laughed at, It turned out being acute sinus problems. I also started getting aches & pains in my knees, elbows & ankles. Then I started to develop bloating & diarrhea. Which ended up leading to Coeliac & along time after that dairy intolerance. I also developed a rash ( atopic dermatits) over my face which I eventually found was from sugar.
I spoke to a lady who said her friends daughter also had Eczma n the specialist said to go off all sugar products as there is a bacteria in everyone that thrives off it. So when I got home I Googled sugar craving bacteria, and that led me to find out about Candida. If only I had known about this I don’t think I would have so many allergies now. I am just starting the Candida diet & am starting to breathe properly again & my face is clearing up and I feel like I can think straight for the fist time in years! I will be telling everyone I know with the same illnesses as me to help them out.”

Just beginning to end
“I have suffered for 15 years with chronic skin issues and went from doctor to doctor with no answers. The only thing that would help me is steroids and I would have to go on them at least 2x/year to stop the skin itching and burning. The thing that really ticked me off was when the allergist told me he couldn’t help me because this was all in my head!!! REALLY??? I am 53 years old and with this flare up I said enough is enough. I went to a Holistic Nutritionist last week and she said that I have a serious candida issue and food allergies (which apparently feed the candida). I am on a meat and veggie diet and taking 4 different supplements to kick start this healing. I can’t say that I have noticed a huge reduction in the burning/itching yet, but I can feel myself starting to relax because it isn’t as intense. I have lost 6 lbs (very quickly) and feel absolutely fantastic. I had a foggy brain a lot in the past and just attributed it lack of sleep, or something. Now I have the answers to what has caused me issues all these years. I am so excited to be rid of this chronic skin issue that has plagued me for all this time!!”
